Wiki home · 0.6.0-SNAPSHOT compatibility preview
Version 0.6 adds an automatically selected inventory interface for older servers.
Install the universal JAR and use /smp or /settings. No legacy edition,
client mod, resource pack or manual menu switch is required. See
server compatibility and validation
for the exact builds actually checked.
What players see
On older servers, Settings has six categories in a chest inventory. The dashboard, auction house, orders, Quick Buy, homes, friends, selling and RTP also have inventory entry points. Buttons that require text explain the relevant command. Native forms, pause-screen navigation and Quick Actions are enabled only on supported modern Paper-family servers (the dialog implementation targets 1.21.11 and the 26.x line). Spigot uses inventory menus on every version.
The selection follows the server's capabilities, not a player's protocol version. Connecting a 1.8 client to a modern server through a protocol translator does not turn that server into a 1.8 server. Automatic per-client dialog selection is not included; use matching clients for the qualified legacy installation path.
Items and features
- Renamed items use their version's real material names. Configured legacy log, dye, head and supported color variants retain their data values.
- Unavailable server-shop/shard offers are omitted and checked again before any payment. Crates exclude unavailable item rewards before consuming an account key. If no valid reward remains, the key is retained.
- GUI icons may use a recognizable older item. A visual icon fallback does not make an unavailable item tradable. For example, netherite is not sold as stone.
- Chest shops work with single chests on 1.8. Barrels and shulker features require Minecraft versions that contain those blocks/items. Double chests remain excluded.
- The Sell Axe, drills and virtual spawners keep namespaced item identities. Old versions store typed custom NBT; 1.13 uses its transitional CustomItemTagContainer; newer versions use Bukkit persistent data. Editable names and lore never authorize a custom tool.
- Old chest ownership is saved in
legacy-container-owners.yml. Back it up withchest-shops.ymland the world. On a modern server, an encountered legacy container record is migrated to tile persistent data. - Creator display-entity previews are disabled on versions without display entities. Creator menus and configuration remain available.
- Inventory/sidebar text respects older length limits. Some old GUI icons differ. Folia continues to disable its unsupported Bukkit sidebar.
Choose Java for the server
The universal plugin contains Java 8 compatible bytecode. The Minecraft server still determines which Java runtime is required. The tested server builds use:
| Minecraft generation | Runtime used for qualification |
|---|---|
| 1.8.8–1.16.5 | Java 8 |
| 1.17.1 | Java 16 |
| 1.18.2–1.20.4 | Java 17 |
| 1.20.6–1.21.11 | Java 21 |
| 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3 | Java 25 |
Use the latest patch of a supported Minecraft generation. Qualification of a listed build does not prove every intermediate patch, fork or future release. This is a Bukkit-family plugin; vanilla servers, proxies and Forge/Fabric mod loaders cannot load it by themselves.
Existing servers and version changes
The internal data folder, permissions and namespaced identifiers remain stable. Back up the plugin directory, world and player data together. Replace the old JAR while the server is stopped, then start normally. Use a separate copy when testing a Minecraft upgrade. Never downgrade a newer world or newer serialized item data onto an older server. The plugin does not replace Minecraft's world conversion.
Normal-restart persistence checks are separate from crash recovery. Complete recovery across all inventory/world interruptions and production load remain outside the qualified preview scope.
